Staring at a bunch of blank pages in a journal can be a little daunting. What do I write? Where do I start?
Let me give you some ideas…
Over the last 10-15 years, I’ve filled up countless journals. Some big. Some small. Some with a lot of pages. Some with not so many pages. And perhaps like you, I didn’t really know where to start or what to write when I began. But over the years, the things I journaled about seemed to fall into 7 categories:
-Bible verses that impacted me.
-Sermon notes.
-Excerpts from impactful books and devotions that I read.
-Gratitude.
-Prayers. (Actually, you can use my prayer journal ‘The Prayer Wall Journal’ for prayers 😀)
-Biblical Affirmations.
-Things I felt like God was speaking to me.
Write the date of each entry, too!
By journaling and writing things down by hand, your brain processes the information better and commits it to memory more easily. I don’t know about you, but I want to remember and commit to memory God’s word and voice in my life.
Psalm 119:11 – “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
My encouragement: simply get started.
How amazing it will be to look back at all of the journals you may fill in 2 years, 10 years, 20 years, maybe even 50 years. And you’ll be able to trace God’s faithfulness through it all.
